Key lessons learned about
planning and operating a CommunityNet...
- Consistent coordination and history are required to pull it all together.
- It takes a long time to build credibility in the community, so be patient.
Once communities take ownership of the idea, more support will be forthcoming.
- Local partnerships are essential and include general public, educational,
library, industry and government supporters.
Gary's Wish
List! to expand and improve BC's CommunityNets 1996 includes...
- Resolving the CommunityNet sustainability issue.
- Working with the BC government Information and Technology Access Office
(ITAO) to grow, expand, and sustain BC's CommunityNets.
- Increasing cooperation between BC and Canadian government CommunityNet
programs.
- Establishing a model to move from pure volunteer management to paid core
staff positions.
