The National Graduate Registry (NGR) is a searchable Internet database containing the resumes of thousands of post-secondary students and graduates across Canada. Certain youth employment programs under the Youth Employment Strategy (YES) are using this powerful tool to solicit applications and recruit young people.
How it Works:Applicants indicate their interest in specific programs by submitting their NGR resumes to program-specific databases. Federal government programs provide participating employers with a username and password, allowing them to access and search the program-specific database. How to search your Youth program database:
If you have access to the internet:Step 1: Go to the NGR web site at http://ngr.schoolnet.caIf you do not have access to the internet:
Step 2: Scroll down and click the square Employer button in the centre of the NGR home page.
Step 3: Enter the username and password assigned by your Program and click Enter with the mouse. If you don't yet know your username and password, contact your federal government contact person to obtain it. This password allows you to search the sub-database in the NGR containing the resumes of candidates who have already expressed an interest in your program.
Step 4: Use Create Search Profile to conduct a search of your program-specific database. Select specific criteria to narrow your search profile. You will recieve a list of matching resumes and can contact candidates for interview.
The Submit Request button will provide a list of the candidates registered in your database and will allow you to locate particular candidates by name.
You can also search the larger NGR database by registering as a New Employer from the NGR home page and cxreating your own private username and password. The NGR can meet many of your other recuiting needs, from full-time entry-level positions, part-time position to student co-op placements.
When searching the larger NGR database, you do not have direct access to candidate contact information and must request this information by forwarding profile identification numbers to our office:
e-mail: email@example.comOur office will contact the candidate to confirm their interest and availability and send you the contact information within two business days.
fax: (613) 941-2811
Step 5: Submit your company profile at no charge by clicking the Submit Company Profile button on your Employer home page.
The office staff will be happy to complete a search for you - free. Complete the NGR Offline Search Profile and either fax it to the NGR Centre at (613) 941-2811 or call the NGR toll-free line at 1-800-964-7763 to submit your search criteria. Within two business days, you will receive a list of NGR resumes matching your search criteria. This service is free for employers under the Youth Employment Strategy.
Thousands of young professionals have already submitted their resumes to these youth programs through the NGR. We urge you to make their efforts worthwhile.
