R. Edward Gosnell, editor, historian Legislative Librarian and Secretary to the British Columbia Bureau of Statistics, would be proud of this project. British Columbia's first Legislative Librarian was fanatical about getting information out to the people. It is due to his insight and vision that we have proud informational institutions such as the British Columbia Archives and the Royal British Columbia Museum, which now serve us in so many different mediums.

Working from his vantage point of Legislative Librarian, he established the British Columbia Library Association and set up traveling libraries to bring library services to areas outside the Lower Mainland. He was also a prolific public speaker and historian. Just imagine what he would have accomplished with today's technologies and the power of the Internet to bring unique information to the furthest corners of the globe!

On behalf of today's Legislative Library I offer congratulations to the British Columbia Archives and the British Columbia Community Networks Association, and to the imagination shown in giving the 1901 edition of Gosnell's The Year Book of British Columbia new life and a wider audience. I know it will be very well received.

Joan Barton, Legislative Librarian
