The Coast Caribou Chilcotin Learning Network  CCCLN

-provides access to information and learning resources for residents of the Region's communities by offering multi-point access to a variety of learning resources within and across communities.

Objectives

Rural communities have identified improved access to information related to community development, employment services and education/skills training as crucial to enhancing their ability to create employment and stimulate business creation. Access to training and educational resources  information technologies will make rural communities more attractive to prospective residents and investors. The establishment of a Community Learning Network in the Coast Caribou Chilcotin region of Central British Columbia has opened the door to capacity building in these rural communities by developing local technical expertise and leadership. The Coast Caribou Chilcotin Learning Network addresses a fundamental problem, i.e. how do people living and working across a Huge area get up-to-date, hands-on computer/technology training and access to distance education and career-planning resources?

Create a Learning Resource Coordinator in each community.
Facilitate access to programs related to basic computer training and Internet Access.
Utilize technology as much as possible to encourage communications, accessibility to programs, and peer support within and across communities.
Develop a communications system between communities to exchange information on programs, events, resources, and opportunities.



 

Office of Learning Technologies

In 1996 the federal government established the Office of Learning Technologies (OLT) within Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC), as a partner in building a culture of lifelong learning.

The OLT works to raise awareness of the opportunities, challenges and benefits of technology-based learning and to act as a catalyst for innovation in the area of technology-enabled learning and skills development.

  • Increase the availability and sharing of knowledge and quality information about learning technologies.
